STEP 3: TRAIN
The Counselor Certification program provides flexible yet comprehensive training to meet your needs. While our requirements include having a master’s degree before you apply, you may be allowed to enroll for Counselor Certification if you are currently enrolled in a master's degree program. Internships can be completed anywhere in Texas.
At INSPIRE TEXAS, your instructors will provide guidance and feedback throughout the 12-month program. Understanding students, planning, collaboration, consultation and professionalism are critical training objectives. All field supervisors have been counselors in Texas.
You will meet with the field supervisor and a campus/district mentor at least three times while enrolled in the Counselor Certification program. In addition to these in-person meetings, you will have the opportunity to meet with the field supervisor on a monthly basis. This exchange will include sharing reflections of the internship experiences and activities completed, which allows you to apply that knowledge as you progress through each course.
As a counselor candidate, you will complete approximately 360 hours of counselor program training, which includes coursework, seminars, action research, and field experience at an accredited public, private or charter school.
